17 May is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). The Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus in collaboration with the NGO Support Centre and the Cyprus Community Media Centre (CCMC), having presented the first online video campaign related to LGBT issues (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgender) under the general title “Life is not just black & white”, presented on 18^th of May the first Human Library on LGBT issues, entitled the “Rainbow Human Library”. The Rainbow Human Library took place in the Peace Hall of Ledra str. in Nicosia.

The Human Library is an event where the books that are available to read are humans. These books are not actors or authors of books. They are human beings open to talk about themselves, their ideas and their identities, and thus to inspire open dialogue and debate. They are open books for achieving a culture of understanding and respecting of diversity. The procedure is simple. Library ‘visitors’ “borrow” a book for a maximum of twenty minutes. The reading session takes the form of a personal meeting between the visitor and the book and visitors may ask any variety of questions, provided the books are returned intact. They can then read a different book if they wish.

This is a great way for people to get in touch with issues, topics, identities and ideas that others may face with ignorance, suspicion or prejudice. The Rainbow Human Library consists of books (people), where each one is labeled as a specific “colour”, thus the “Rainbow" title. In the Rainbow Human Library, all colour-books talk about LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans) issues and their relationship to them.

The Rainbow Human Library was organised by the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus in collaboration with the NGO Support Centre, Cyprus Community Media Centre, and the Pool of Trainers of the Cyprus Youth Council.

Πολύχρωμη Ανθρώπινη Βιβλιοθήκη

Η 17^η Μαϊου είναι η Διεθνής Μέρα Ενάντια στην Ομοφοβία, Αμφιφυλοφοβία και την Τρανςφοβία. Η Αντιπροσωπεία της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής στην Κύπρο σε συνεργασία με το Κέντρο Στήριξης Μη Κυβερνητικών Οργανισμών και το Κοινοτικό Κέντρο Μέσων Επικοινωνίας Κύπρου, έχοντας ήδη παρουσιάσει την πρώτη διαδικτυακή καμπάνια με βίντεο σχετικά με ΛΟΑΤ (Λεσβίες, Ομοφυλόφιλοι, Αμφισεξουαλικοί, Τρανς) ζητήματα κάτω από τον γενικό τίτλο: ‘’Η Ζωή δεν είναι μόνο άσπρο και μαύρο’’, παρουσίασε στις 18 Μαϊου την πρώτη Ανθρώπινη Βιβλιοθήκη με ΛΟΑΤ ζητήματα, με τίτλο ‘’Πολύχρωμη Ανθρώπινη Βιβλιοθήκη’’. Η Πολύχρωμη Ανθρώπινη Βιβλιοθήκη πραγματοποιήθηκε στην αίθουσα Ειρήνη στην οδό Λήδρας, Λευκωσία.

Η Ανθρώπινη Βιβλιοθήκη είναι μια εκδήλωση όπου τα βιβλία τα οποία είναι διαθέσιμα για διάβασμα είναι άνθρωποι. Αυτά τα βιβλία δεν είναι ηθοποιοί ή συγγραφείς των βιβλίων. Είναι άνθρωποι διαθέσιμοι να μιλήσουν για τον εαυτό τους, τις ιδέες τους και τις ταυτότητες τους, για να εμπνεύσουν ανοικτό διάλογο και συζήτηση. Είναι ανοικτά βιβλία για την επίτευξη μιας κουλτούρας κατανόησης και σεβασμού στην διαφορετικότητα. Η διαδικασία είναι απλή. Οι ‘επισκέπτες’ της Βιβλιοθήκης δανείζονται ένα βιβλίο για είκοσι λεπτά. Η ανάγνωση παίρνει την μορφή προσωπικής συνάντησης μεταξύ του επισκέπτη και του βιβλίου και το βιβλίο και οι επισκέπτες μπορούν να κάνουν διάφορες ερωτήσεις, νοουμένου ότι τα βιβλία παραμένουν άθικτα. Μετά μπορούν να διαβάσουν άλλο βιβλίο εάν το επιθυμούν.

Είναι ένας πολύ καλός τρόπος για τα άτομα να έρθουν σε επαφή με ζητήματα, ταυτότητες και ιδέες που άλλα άτομα αντιμετωπίζουν με άγνοια, υποψία και προκατάληψη. Η Πολύχρωμη Ανθρώπινη Βιβλιοθήκη αποτελείται από βιβλία (άτομα), όπου το καθένα από αυτά έχει ένα συγκεκριμένο ‘’χρώμα’’, γι αυτό και ο τίτλος ‘’Πολύχρωμη’’. Στην Πολύχρωμη Ανθρώπινη Βιβλιοθήκη, όλα τα χρώματα – βιβλία μιλούν για ΛΟΑΤ ζητήματα και την σχέση τους με αυτά.

Η Πολύχρωμη Ανθρώπινη Βιβλιοθήκη είχε διοργανωθεί από την Αντιπροσωπεία της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής στην Κύπρο σε συνεργασία με το Κέντρο Στήριξης ΜΚΟ, το Κοινοτικό Κέντρο Μέσων Επικοινωνίας Κύπρου, και την Ομάδα Εκπαιδευτών του Συμβουλίου Νεολαίας Κύπρου.
